WOW never thought this would actually go through, or dna would have held out for $100+ per share. wonder what will happen to the south city crew.

As long as you're good at your job and work hard you'll be fine.

True to a point. If an entire department gets wiped, then it wont matter how hard you work, you're just a statistic of the merger.

Does this mean current Genentech employees that are share holders will be wealthier or will Roche find some way to screw them?
Just curious....

Depends on how the merge affects Genentech employees, I guess. I'm a shareholder, so I'll be forced to tender/sell my shares in the company, so I'll get some money out of that. It's too early to tell if my job is safe or not, so I might get screwed regardless.

Thankfully Genentech and Roche settled with a "friendly" takeover; gives hope to Roche keeping our severance package levels the same or Roche execs letting Genentech operate as its own entity under them.

The analysts are going crazy right now, and virtually every scenario has been projected at least once, so here comes the even more painful waiting game.

The Roche statement says they will leave Research and Clinical Development as a seperate entity...so hopefully that's both of us safe...who knows.

I just keep working hard so it's not me that gets cut if it comes to that.

Short term though...made some good money on our shares

I work at Roche in Palo Alto. Our site will close down in this "friendly" merger. About 1/2 of us (~500 people) will be without a job. Genentech will be left pretty much alone for a while. Genentech got great scientists and minds there so Roche will protect its cash cow. People working there should feel safe.
