My Finnish buddy has come up with this idea to close off a certain one-lane road on the fringes of the Bay Area, and conduct a timed hill-climb up it. His plan is to park a guy at the bottom (start line), a second guy at the top (finish line), and another third guy about a mile past the finish down the road (for a lookout), and hold this timed hill-climb, but then keep the results a un-disclosed until everybody meets up later (to keep guys from getting bent on bettering others' times).
Thoughts?
Personally, I think he's loco.

Hill climbs used to be a lot more popular, both on pavement and dirt/gravel roads. Due to liability reasons you don't see many.
There's one run up near Reno every year called the Virginia City Hill Climb. A year or two ago someone drove off the edge in a Porsche, killing himself and his passenger.
