I wont riding in the city just only around my neighborhood towards the hills. The closest thing to traffic that i will be seeing is a stop sign. If i do decde to expand my route in or around downtown ill most likely invest in some good brakes. Brake or brakeless. Either way its cool

My boss is an avid rider. Decided he was going to build a commuter bike, a Bianchi San Jose fixie with no brakes, the first day he rode in he arrived with nasty rash on the side of his face. "what happened?" "got cut off by some ******* and I couldn't stop" he endo'd the hood of a car and smashed his face into the pavement. He put a front brake on for the following mornings commute.

Fixed rider checking in here. I reccomend a Vittorio Randonneur rear tire if you are running brakeless, they break traction easily (initiating skids is easier, stopping happens quicker). This will be helpful if you decide to move up to the 48x17 ratio. I put a brake on after my knees started getting aggravated by skidding down hills in SF.

I run Mavic Open Pro wheels and Miche Primato hubs, which are plenty strong for my 200lb frame- If you like Deep-V's have at it, just remember they are a tad heavier, and the Open Pro's are just as strong. Have fun with the build, keep us posted on the pics!

i would but no trick/stunt bike here. i plan on doing a conversion in the near future with a bike from the flea market that i will use strictly for bashing/tricks. ill keep that info in mind. im actually doing deep v's in the rear and a piece of san jose (id42) for the front. are chainrings interchangeable with different brands?

with all this talk about eating pavement i might as well invest in brakes just in case the unexpected happens. i havent done any research on brakes but ill probably look into it tonight after i watch wolverine. anyone recommend a brand? a type (if there are any variations)?

i really really like white steel frames - looks like it will be a pretty sweet ride.

i would run a front brake - what if you drop your chain? no brakes. i've seen this happen to plenty of fixies. i know it doesn't look as clean, but it could save your life.

just a front brake would suffice. any side pull road brake will do, and a center mounted lever can be bought for around $20 (tektro or diacompe)

ok so i did some research and found out that there are also internal routed brake cables, and brake levers that go on the end of the bar rather than on the side of the bar. i really like the look plus ill have brakes. i want this to look really clean (cable tucked/ internally routed) and safe. i probably need to drill a hole into the handle bar and possibly into the stem, steerer tube, and fork. i have little grommets that i bought for my car that i can use to protect the cable from being cut by the holes i will make.

anyone notice any downfalls with this setup?
