Mucho Props to Carlsen Subaru

This past weekend on Sun, my heater core ruptured. It was a real *****. With all the rain and the steam coming out of the vents it made it almost impossible to drive. On Sunday night I dropped the car off at Carlsen at the early bird drop off. Early Monday morning I got a call from Robert at thier service dept. They verified the heater core had a leak and said that they would have to order the part from Indiana. He said it should be there on Wed. I asked him if it would be possible to get any help on this repair seeing as how it is a very uncommon part that fails. My car is out of warranty. Currently reading 42,000 miles. He said he would contact SOA and see what he could do.

He later contacted me and said that He convinced SOA to go in 50% of the repair estimated at $1000. In addition there would be 100% coverage for a rental car.

I heard from him yesterday, he said that the total repair bill was $1470. The original estimate was $1000 and he would only charge me $500. For a vehicle out of warranty, this was a very nice gesture to say the least.

I give many props to Carlsen and their service dept.

wow. That's rad.

Good news jeff. That was a bummer when I heard about that. Considering the changes your car has made and how many hands have been into it, it's very impressive that they stepped up and did that. Right on for them.

Now if SC subaru will take care of my damn oil issues. Getting the run around right now.

Great service!

There's a reason Carlsen has such a good reputation.

I took it in for the oil. The dude said yeah lets start the oil consumption test. I said I use syn..he said change it...make sure it's at the full line and bring it back in 1000 miles. I called to make my apt. and this other dude tells me THEY have to do all that...which I understand but it sucks because they could have done it then and saved me the time and the $40 to do my own oil change. Then he tells me I should switch back to standard oil for the test....my question is...shouldn't the conditions remain the same so the problem can be duplicated?

So now I have to bring it back in on monday. Pay them to do my oil change and start over.

My plan is to talk to the sevice manager that knows me and the dude that I delt with last time and tell them....you know my car. You know me. It's been in. You know I wouldn't mess around. Shoot I took my futoma valve off just so they can't say that I'm draining.

Bottom line...something is and has been wrong with my car for a long time. It'd be nice to just have them figure it out.

+1 for Carlsen. I took my car in to fix a noisy timing belt tensioner. My car at the time had 36,300 miles on it... service manager and I both assumed that it was covered under the powertrain warranty which is 5 years/60k miles, but the warranty guy later pointed out that it was not covered under powertrain... so, it defaulted to basic coverage, which my car didn't qualify for since it was 300 miles beyond the mileage.

They still fixed it under "act of kindness" or "good faith" or something or other and I didn't have to pay a dime (except for half the rental car)...
Good folks.... those Carlsen people

The 'car biz' term you're looking for is "goodwill repair".
