Movie recommends: dystopias

Looking for movie recommends (in theater or DVD) of good Dystopias. Or just entertaining.

I enjoyed:

The Island
Equilibrium
District B13
The Road (<-- fricken disturbing, but awesome still)

As you can see, I'm all over the map, but still.

if you liked equilibrium...then you'll like anything.

Aeon Flux was entertaining. I liked the Book of Eli.

As dumb as Equilibrium was, ya gotta admit it was fun. And it got tons of points for gunkata.

I liked Book of Eli, Aeon Flux was meh.

Dystopia? hell, watch "Children of Men", but brace yourself. It will **** you up for a few days, but its worth it.
Ranked by many as one of the best science fiction films ever. Its brutal as hell, as any good SF should be.

Dark City (Hey, Jennifer Connelly, eh-eh )
A Clockwork Orange.
Planet of the Apes (Originals form 70's/80's).
Akira (this messed w/ me more than Children of Men did, but I also watched it at 12 in a theater, so yeah, big difference).
Donnie Darko.
Death Race 2000.
28 Days Later.
Resident Evil, all of them.

Lesser effect as far as impressing me..

The amount of work and effort they put back then into the small details that only last a few seconds on screen really add so much depth and weight to the story that even if you dont think you noticed it at the time, you subconsciously absorb it and and connected to the storytelling on a much deeper level.

Nowadays with CGI, effects have become completely lazy and hollow and the storytelling really carries no emotional weight at all. I miss the old days. Its sad to think that things like this will soon be a lost art as everyone goes to the cheaper and sterile CGI

Yep, pretty much covers it. They don't even touch upon the background score, singing, narrative tonality, etc. I've seen people walk out of the theater or room watching it because it's just so intense a movie. That list I made was from memory, I could easily put them in a numbered list, Akira definitely always would fall into the Top 5.

Oh, I also forgot these two,

Time Machine (1960).
Forbidden Planet.

I have all my dystopics in a special spot of their own, I should take a picture one of these days, you all would blow a gasket at my collection.
