Old gasoline in the tank may not be a problem since cars don't vent vapors to the atmosphere. There's less chance of moisture mixing with the gasoline in the tank and forming some sort of resin over time.
He put a new motor in his car last month after sitting 13 months. Started it up, it ran but ran BAD! Replaced the fuel, ran like a champ!

If Vanessa is ok with it, I'll be glad to borrow her car for awhile

for example, the tires probably will be shot if u leave 'em sitting on one spot for long enough, but will it hurt the wheels? (given that i don't care that the tires die)

If this is done, just make sure that the car is in a safe place where no one will accidentally bump the car hard enough to tip it off the stands. I think that I would try to use blocks to hold the car off the ground by the control arms, if possible, so that the wheel/tire assemblies don't 'hang' from the car.

Your car battery:
"A battery has self discharge or internal electrochemical 'leakage' that will cause it to become fully discharged and sulfated over time. Prior to storing a battery, it should be fully charged, placed in a cool location above freezing, and recharged when it reaches the 80% state-of-charge level or once every six months, whichever occurs first. If left in a vehicle, disconnect the negative cable."
If you are talking about years of unattended storage, then this requires a lot more preparation like the draining of some fluids. There are probably better sources online that can detail how to protect the car and engine in long-term storage.

Good luck in HK and your new job. Aren't you going to miss your track days?

so if i don't put the car on blocks, and leave it sitting as is, what might be the consequences?

if someone drove it, then how often should it be driven? etc.
Really.Idling in the driveway won't do - ideally they want to bring all of the fluid temps up to normal through actual driving, otherwise the tranny and diff lubricant temperatures will never come up. They don't have to take it to redline, just drive it as if they were going to work or school. This keeps the internals lubricated, as well as keeping the oil seals in the engine, tranny, and differentials pliable so they can do their job.

Well, everytime I visit Hong Kong, I see quite a bit of subies driving around. Not as much as Hondas but they are there. A lot are GC8s and Legacy wagons. Not much GD bodied ones.
Try going to Mongkok to places like Top Racing, Felix Technical, Crazy Racing etc.. They usually have a suby inside their shop being modded. Buy one of those local car magazines like Option Fans were these and many other stores advertise. If you go farther out to the New Territories, you can find the junk yards with crashed Evos, Skylines, Type-R Hondas and our favorite Subarus just waiting to be parted out at cheap prices.

Damn you Vanessa, you're lucky to be in HK. I hate you!
I remember seeing pictures of an Impreza Meet out in the New Territories, but I dunno if it's regular or not. Probably a pain to get to without a car (KCR's routes are limited).
BTW, did you get an Octopus card? Makes life SO much easier
