you can get a used one for a reasonable price in hk. the thing that's expensive is finding places to park it... gas... insurance... etc.
but parking is by far the killer...

yeah.. I was in Hk a couple of years ago.. and no.. ppl don't seem to drive subarus over there.. it's kind of extreme.. it's either high end ferreri, zondas or.. hondas.. but at least they get better hondas there... I guess they don't have the need for all wheel drive.....

Speaking of which .. who in BAIC is a honger.. maybe we can have a honger meet sometime.. heheeh

Maybe the name "Subaru" sounds weird in Cantonese. It roughly translates to "broomstick man", in case someone wondered why they'd find broomstick references around Subaru communities.

"Why would you wanna drive a friggin' broomstick car?"

thanks

btw, another question: how long can you/should you leave a car sitting without causing significant issues?
for example, the tires probably will be shot if u leave 'em sitting on one spot for long enough, but will it hurt the wheels? (given that i don't care that the tires die)

You won't hurt the wheels. Many folks put their cars up on blocks or jack stands for long term storage (several months or longer). If this is done, just make sure that the car is in a safe place where no one will accidentally bump the car hard enough to tip it off the stands. I think that I would try to use blocks to hold the car off the ground by the control arms, if possible, so that the wheel/tire assemblies don't 'hang' from the car.

Old gasoline in the tank may not be a problem since cars don't vent vapors to the atmosphere. There's less chance of moisture mixing with the gasoline in the tank and forming some sort of resin over time.

Your car battery:
"A battery has self discharge or internal electrochemical 'leakage' that will cause it to become fully discharged and sulfated over time. Prior to storing a battery, it should be fully charged, placed in a cool location above freezing, and recharged when it reaches the 80% state-of-charge level or once every six months, whichever occurs first. If left in a vehicle, disconnect the negative cable."

If you are talking about years of unattended storage, then this requires a lot more preparation like the draining of some fluids. There are probably better sources online that can detail how to protect the car and engine in long-term storage.

Ideally, you would want some trustworthy person to periodically start and drive your car for a few miles to bring the engine and gear oils up to operating temperature and burn all moisture condensation out of the exhaust (not much of a problem with stainless turbo back systems).

Good luck in HK and your new job. Aren't you going to miss your track days?
