ive ridden UCSC to HWY9 trails my whole life and nothing else, i feel bad or spoiled that i dont try out new stuff.
Ive always wanted to try from 9/35 down to stevens creek, a good downhill i assume, and a fun and fast shuttle ride back up

any bike that has a square geometry...unlike my triangle frame that cant pedal up a 10' hill

If its a first bike, and you are sure you want XC, I would suggest you look at a hardtail - its cheaper, and it will teach you to ride well before you learn bad habits from a full suspension. After you ride that for a year and learn that you really like it, take ll your components that you like and swap them over to a nice full suspension from (like the yeti, or a while bunchof other ones - see my other post).
