Motorcycle Question

To the bike riders out there:

I'm considering a Kawasaki 250r as a beginning bike, any thoughts? The speed isn't a factor for me but the very skinny tires are. I'm guessing new tires can be swapped on just like a car, right?

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm 6'1" and weigh 225, but should be weighing about ten pounds less in a month or two. I've got the muscles to keep the bike up, but my damn belly and man ***** will be slowing me down until I lose em

well with only 250cc. You don't need really fat tires. I'm sure what's on there is fine for the bike.

(the front tires are usually pretty skinny, but harley's w/ large engines have relatively small rear tires).

250cc is a great beginners bike. Wider tires don't necessarily mean better handling on a bike.

Just an interesting bit of trivia, my '04 R6 has a 180-17 rear, and my buddies' '04 R1 has a 190-17 rear.

Just start off with a 600cc bike. You will soon get bored of the 250cc and want something with more power. I suggest you get a nice Honda CBR600F4i as a beginner bike. It's very beginner friendly.

Try to test ride some bikes if you know people. I assume you already know how to ride.

Don't do as my friend did - his first bike ever is a Suzuki Hayabusa (GSX 1300). I tried riding it once but it's too big of a bike for me. His riding has improved tremendously through regular rides with an AMA-affiliated motorcycle club.

Read this (I did) for reasons why starting on a 250cc is a good idea.

I started on a 600c though way back when (1991 Suzuki Katana 600). Then I graduated to a '93 CBR600F2 (red, white, and blue!) and took a hiatus from riding for 10 years until I recently bought my '04 R6.

Let me tell you, the 600cc bikes nowadays are SCARY! I'd hate to have started on one of them...

My first bike was a Kawasaki 454ltd. Very good starter. It was pretty quick too. Water cooled, 6spd trans. I found mine in good conditon for $400. I sold it later for 1100. It is good to start on a small bike. I probably would have gotten a 250 but all of the ones i looked at were to physically small for me to be comfortable on. Good Choice. Keep the shiny side up!

If you are a heavier set person *i don't know ya, just sayin* I'd got with at least a 500cc. A ex500 is probably the most common starter bike for anyone. I started on a CBR600 F2 myself. Any older CBR600 *F1-4* is great for learning, they are very forgiving bikes and can be picked up for 3K or less with it being the off season now.

That book said up above is great also. Keith Codes Twist of the Wrist is another one people reccomend as well, although i haven't read it myself.

www.bayarearidersforum.com is a great place to get some info, as well as find a nice group to ride with to help learn too.

I might be interested in the RR. I'm assuming he's dropped it? Or it has some kind of damage done to it?

Dude im thinking about selling my Ninja ex250R. its a 2001 its in great shape im trying to sell it around 1800. All the miles are freeway miles, it has about 9,xxx. oh ya i just put nice new tires on also. And actually for a 250 the bike really isnt that slow, i mean it would do 100 i bet. IM me for pics and more details. Fantastic Flat4
