i dont think insurance covers anything drivetrain unless your car was stolen or in a wreck where it needs replacment. warranty will probably replace whatever is needed if it does get warrantied that is. what are the mods to your car?

Power train warranty is 5yrs or 60k miles or 50k miles(not sure which) whichever comes first. 3yr or 36k is bumper to bumper warranty. I just took in my 05 STi with 45k and I'm getting my synchros fixed under warranty. 4th to 5th synchros were acting up. Would always grind gears when I would shift under high rpms.
I had a blown engine due to negligence, but it was more complicated than that. Oil change place had put the wrong filter on the car, it worked properly but it was a tall instead of a shorty. This caused the oil filter to hang below the chasis, when crossing some railroad tracks it ripped the oil filter off and by the time I got down a block away the engine had seized.
You may be able to get something done but only if something actually caused it, if the car just gave up the ghost you're **** outta luck.

Ruehl has it right, the only way the insurance company will pay up is if it was due to some other damage that they cover...such as being in an accident or being stolen etc.

Doubtful that insurance would cover a blown motor. That sort of loss does not fall into typical comprehensive loss terms.
It's more of a warranty issue, or if you have no warranty or the warranty is past due, I guess you might just have to pay out of pocket.

friend had his civic motor covered by AAA after hydrolock killed it. they're probably the best comp in terms of covering many claims other carriers wouldn't trade off is that you pay up the ying yang for coverage.
but i've had a coupla claims on previous cars that got broken into. they covered ALL the mods & stolen property inside w/out previous declaration.
