having the WRX tinted today, thinking 20 on the rear, and 35 on all four doors.
can't decide if I want to do 20 on the rear doors as well or what
Please let me know your thoughts.
I did a search, but only came up with really really old threads on tint, and most of the links were dead.

If it were a poll, I'd vote for 20% on all 5 rear windows. Just do 35% on the front two. That's what I've done on the last two vehicles I've owned and it looks great. You generally can't even tell the difference looking at it.

when I searched (i-club and google) it looks like the limit for Cali is something like 77.. lol, but the national standard (or something wierd like that) is 35. so supposedly the cops will do, whatever they want.. LOL

You aren't allowed to have any tint on the front two in CA. Having a wagon helps as the cops generally disregard us
I've only been hit once in 13 years of driving in the bay with tint.

70 is basically nothing, its that "low" because they allow for the factory UV protectant. If you look I think you'll see that stock your driver's glass is not clear, it has a hint of green.
Also the cops seem to be nicer about it if you claim (politely) that the car came like this, or that it was purchased out of state, and were unaware. on previous cars, said statements got me verbal warnings.

I'd go with "it came this way" -cops like being lied to about as much as being shot at

A friend of mine, just got an '08 STi, and already got hassled by a cop for not having a front plate. Also, tried to hassle him for 5% in the rears too.
I really think cops are cracking more and more down on these insignificant laws. Sure, I wouldn't care as much if they got him for speeding and then tried to add on these, but he's still in break in, so he's babying it like no other, and they all they tried to get him was for no front plate.
I seriously would recommend looking more towards a 45% in the front, because I've had 45% all around for over 4 years and I've never had a cop ever question the tint on my car.

Yeah, your best bet is to just say you purchased the car like that. Really though, it hasn't been a problem for me. My car's have never fit the "street racer" look so I never get messed with.
