what a waste of money. The sad part is that this will mainly affect two types of people:

1. Low income people who can't afford newer cars, or to keep the car they have in tip-top shape.

2. People who modify their vehicles.

And think of all the wasted time there will be when you drive your smog exempt vehicle by that thing and they have to look at the pics, check your plates and then not send out a notice. Nice.

I don't see anything good comming of this. its kind of like the when they required smog statons to start using dynos to check cars with the Smog II methond. older cars will not be able to pass causing pepple to purchase newer care (if they can afford them).

it's a way to supplement the state budget and nothing more. smog stations do not measure emissions "spewing from tailpipes as vehicles accelerate" as the article states, they measure emissions at a constant rpm with the car on rollers.

If you go down to So Cal, you'll see why theres all these new smog laws. I went down there Wednesday and to go 50 miles on the freeway took 2 hours because it was mostly backed up. Theres a thick layer of smog all around and its disgusting. If you all want to complain, lobby to have California split in 2 so we dont have to deal with So Cals problems.

does anybody know what is actually measured on the new smog dynos? if it is at a constant rpm, at least it's under load and not just turning over at a higher rpm than idle under no load whatsoever.

just wait till people start fragging motors on the smog dynos, that would be hilarious. lol

This is so true its not even funny. my friends mom had to test her early 80's trunk three times until it passed. each time she went she had to pay $89 for the smog test + repairs.

This sucks.
