Monte Carlo style rally August 25th (note date change)
We are planning a meet and drive event in the North Bay for the posted date.
This will be an introduction to the Monte Carlo style rallying.
A brief synopsis:
You're given maps, the general location of the checkpoint, and the EXACT time to be there. If you map out the correct route, you can make it at or below the speed limit to the checkpoint. If you choose the wrong roads, you'll either make it there early or have to "make up time" on these deserted back roads.
It's up to you to stay on time to each checkpoint...it's up to you to have your navigator reading the signs and getting the clues to get you there on time.
Penalty points are assessed if you cross the checkpoint either EARLY or LATE...and the winner is the one who gets the least amount of points. Creeping to the checkpoint is allowed if you're early, but when in sight of the checkpoint you MUST remain moving. Making up time (if you're late) is up to you...and I think most of you know how to do that.
More details to come.
Details:
Ernie's Tin Bar
5100 Lakeville Hwy. Petaluma, CA
Time: Registration opens at 3:00 pm, so that you can check out the all new WRX that's making an appearance. First car out at 5:01pm, and the finish should be ~8:00pm, after which we'll assemble at Round Table Pizza for prizes and dinner.
We will be asking people to chip in for dinner...but the registration is free!!

Not intentionally.
Bring a Scion Xb and try to keep up with an STi that's running late to a checkpoint, and you might have problems...otherwise, this is all planned out AT or BELOW the legal speed limits for each road that makes up the CORRECT course.
Remember, however...YOU are the ones who choose the roads to take to get to the checkpoint.

Hey Greg,
You were going to get some stuff to me to pre-check....
I can't help with the rally itself since you picked the same day as Gorman Ridge.
(Any chance of talking you into changing it for a week later- the day before Mt Hami perhaps?)

I'm about ready to give up and move to a country where rally gets some respect.
