Modifying license plates illegal
Hm, so I just realized the license plate actually covers a significant portion of the FMIC - bad.
Illegal to drill holes in it?
Can it be relocated (I see cars like this sometimes) and if so, what are the guidelines?

Actually, you have to pay for license plates when you first get them, therefore they belong to you. Cutting off the bottom of the plate however, that's not keeping the entire plate legible. As for placement, front and rear. You can drill holes in them to comply with the law regarding securely fastening them.

well i only need to trim like an inch off the bottom, wouldn't cut off any part of the numbers
I have drilled hole in mine to fasten them to my front bumper without cutting into my front bumper. Go ahead and drill holes and move the plate upwards. I would go with a relocation kit to the side though.

no. you are only paying for registration fees, in which the plates are part of that.
but you dont own them.
that's why if you have vanity plates that are deemed offensive, they can get them back from you...
