mod friendly dealer in Sacramento?
i only have 9000 miles on the WRX and i noticed a small transmission leak while changing the oil...
i bought from Maita, but was not impressed with the sales negotiation but was still thinkin about takin it in there to have this leak looked at because its so close to my work...
but i just got done reading a horror story about a guy that was denied warranty coverage on his transmisison at Maita because his car was modified. even though the only modifications were MBC and cat back exhaust...
can someone recomend a mod friendly subaru shop around sacramento?
Thanks

I go into Maita to get my regular services done and I have a Straight pipe ( no Muffler) and Bov and they havent said anything to me about it. If your having any doubts talk to Chris Jones at maita, he is a real nice guy and he can answer any questions you have.

I go to maita for everything too, but nothing on my car has been warranty related. Although their head mechanic hasnt been much of a help with my rattle noises that have poped up since he installed a clutch on my car... Talk to Jim at the service counter, he is a good guy and will try to help you out as much as he can.
And out of all the sac dealerships, maita is still the best in terms of its service department even if you have heard ONE horror story about it.

thanks for the responses guys. the only story i had heard about was this one horror story at maita, so i was lookin for some positive feedback about them. i'll take it there and see how it goes.
also, i purchased the extended warranty and now in retrospect am thinkin that was a huge waste of money. does any one know if i can cancel my extended warranty and receive a prorated refund or am i just screwed?
thanks again for the help

OUCH!
thats not what i was hoping to hear..
so is this you??

Case Number/Repair Order: 139088 Maita Subaru of Sacramento
Problem And Likely Cause: Transmission failure: 1st and 2nd gear. Cause: inherant weak design
Reason Given For Denial: Vehichle is "modified" (Boost Controller and exhaust)
Modifications: Apexi AVC-R HKS Carbon fiber/titanium exhaust
Your Story: Your Story: Well, It all started when I was backing out of my parking spot at work. I backed out ok, and shifted into first and let the clutch out and heard a popping sound. I slowly proceeded to drive out of the parking lot and noticed a thumping sound in first and second gears, then it quieted down. I went to the dealer for warranty coverage (stupid me even bought the "extended warranty") and left my car there and proceeded to get a rental, which "should" be covered by the Subaru of America warranty. Well, about 5 days later I get a call that they are denying my warranty because the vehichle is modified. I call SOA and ask what modifications voided the warranty on case # 442357. They said "It was voided on the grounds that the vehichle was modified with a boost controller, and NOS." NOS? Oh, you mean the SAS Bazooka tube bottle look alike I have. So, needless to say, I am still fighting them over the fact that a boost controller is still limited in functuality by the ECU. The ECU keeps the boost within acceptable limits, and the non-existant NOS system. The funniest thing is, per the associate I spoke to, the denial was based on the "feelings" of the person who inspected my vehichle at the dealership. I guess you can't put stickers on your car without voiding your warranty.
is this an "isolated incident"?
not that im starting to panic, but i would LOVE to hear a few more Maita experiences if possible!
thanks
oh, and thanks for the info bemani, thats good news, i will check into it

nope that wasnt me, i have an RS with a k&n filter, apexi N1 exhaust, CF hood, and aftermarket wheels, the description of the problem is similar leaving my drive way and heard that pop noise and couldnt shift to 2nd... but in your situation id give them a call and try, what kind of the mods you have? i personally felt discriminated there because my car does look modded im only 20years old and my exhaust is really loud...
First off, posting threads like this are a really bad idea.
Because of a similar thread, and going to a dealership without first taking mods off, my damaged engine is not getting warrantied. SOA monitors these threads. . . At least dont post your real name if you're asking anonymously on here.
Never take your car to a dealership with drivetrain mods. And make sure when you put it back to stock you put the bolts back in the exact right places. They tend to use that against you as well. As I also found out the hard way, they document mods and use them against you in the future should you need warranty work (even though they don't mention them when you have it in there).
That being said, Jim at Maita is a really cool guy. He's fixing my clutch shutter under warranty (albeit, not the engine). I had one mishap with them, but they took care of it. One of their stupid (read: REALLY stupid) mechanics dented my fender trying to get my car on a jack. They had their body shop take care of it and it's good as new -- free of course.
I would still recommend Maita for service. I would, however, NEVER buy a car there. Yoda voice: "Ripoff artists, they are."

but the MBC is a legitimate warranty-killer. Always take off anything more than CAI or exhaust when getting warranty work done. This includes headers and even short shifters.
