yep, you don't need a lawyer and can still have a pretty decent contract... should be okay for most of the small projects here and there. if you are dealing anything big, should go llc or inc and let the money sucking lawyers look through your contracts.

Verbal agreement in california is good for 1 or 2 years.

She knows shes taking you for a ride..... I'd tell her , Sorry I cant meet your needs, I reserve the right to refuse work or service to anyone. Go find someone else.
