Being sued for an accident
I sold my old ratty honda to a guy back in september 2010 for 150 bucks. He didnt transfer the title nor did he ever have insurance. He got into an accident and ran. The person that he hit took down the license plate number. Ive got calls allready from the police and have had visits from them. I went down the to the police station stating that the vehicle was sold. I gave them the photocopy i made of the white slip from the title showing the persons name and address. I just got something in the mail today showing that the person that he hit is sueing for the damages to their vehicle. what can i do? i thought i followed all the procedures by going to the police station. do i need to hire a laywer?

this happened to me a few years back. the guy i sold my car to never turned in the transfer of title. there was a lot of BS, had to go to the district (DMV?) court on alakea to get everything cleared up. you've got a copy of your bit of the title, and the info the guy gave you (fake or not), it should be all you need to get out of this situation.

If you don't do anything and the court sees the case, no matter if you are liable or not, you will automatically lose the case and be responsible to pay damages since you didn't show up in court, etc, etc. The best thing to do is take the time to sort it all out. You can call a lawyer for free and have him/her tell you your options. I would go down to the DMV first and see if they have record. Keep everything on file and you should be able to sort it out in no time.
Pain in the *** but if you do nothing, you will be screwed.
