What's funny is I was reading one of those "you know you're a hipster if..." sort of thing when I realized I was also listening to an Elliot Smith CD on my 1989 Sony Discman. SO BUSTED. At the same time, and at that moment, I did not know that listening to Elliot Smith made me a hipster because I do not subscribe to whatever information source one must that tells them which items they should not like in order to be categorically appropriate. I have a friend who absolutely embodies the term "hipster" more than anyone I have ever met, but in reality - he's not a hipster, he's just like that. Back ten years ago he was roaming through garage sales buying stuff our parents tossed out in the 70's. He wouldn't think of listening to any music any of his friends suggest, yet he insists that you should hear this latest rendition of crap that makes me want to stab myself in the eyes. Whatever floats one's boat I guess.
Me, I listen to music I like, wear clothes that I like, and whatever. I really do not give half a **** what someone else thinks about the way I look or what I am listening to, and in reality, my tastes and styles have been pretty much exactly the same since I can remember. Seriously, I even have some of the clothes I had in high school. Back then I think people called my plaid shirts "lumberjack" or some crap. Now it's something else but it's the same old thing. Oh, and I listen to these CD players because they sound awesome. Nothing else comes close.
I guess I don't feel like a hipster driving a new Camaro around. I mostly feel like some sort of douchebag and hope people cannot see me, though I thoroughly enjoy the car. It's also funny that I average around 21mpg while my wife's Honda gets around 15-16. When I drive my Justy though... I guess I feel a little too hip. It's a good thing I didn't go through with that wood-grain hood or my "astro-turf" racing stripe idea. Maybe I should borrow a fixie and put it on my bike rack just for effect... Oh noes!
Either way, the day I show up with a mustache and a cute little hat, that's really an open invitation to punch me in the face.

The other day I was working on my Justy and needed some stuff from the auto parts store. I took the Camaro. When I got out, I saw myself in the reflection of the auto parts store window... I had torn jeans, and a really old jacket from a now defunct airline. Even had my "work glasses" which look a little old fashioned at this point. I saw myself and was like.. "oh ****." Haha..
