Has anyone had any experience with a good Psychiatric Hospital within a few hours drive of the BA. I'm interested in a good facility that can deal with severe depression / bipolar disorders.

I'm looking for a facility you would actually consider taking someone you care about.

 

I have a good friend who's mother goes "in" about once a year... for like 10 years

They really prefer El Camnio Hospital in Mountain View

 

I'd recommend the Alta Bates - Herrick Hospital in Berkeley. Their staff was very professional and the doctors knew what had to be done.

I would STAY AWAY from Fremont Hospital. Horrible and unprofessional staff. The condition of the person I know actually became worse during the stay there. Ended up going to the Alta Bates Herrick Hospital and became completely cured.

 

Stanford's psych services are top-notch. Screw anything else and go directly there. Enter through the Emergency Room.

Not sure if anyone cares, but I'm down in Stanford now. We've been pretty much camped out in the hospital for the last few days. The doctors are still trying to figure things out. Hoping for some better news today. We're pretty frazzled.
