Me wants a fire extinguisher.

Just saw this post: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1137262

Poor guy, doesnt sound like an extinguisher would've really helped in his situation but it got me thinking. Anyone got any recommendations for an in car extinguisher? And no, I won't be mounting it on my A column ya damn ricers! I want something discrete. I'd probably paint it black and mount it in a footwell somewhere anyways.

That's terrible. I kinda know how he feels. My 04 Wagon caught on fire at Reno-Fernley, although my car was not nearly as nice and the damage was not as extensive. But, its gone too.

That hurts. Don't think there will be much parting out of that car going on. Maybe a fire extinguisher is a decent investment.

it should be a REQUIREMENT!

i have one on one of those seatback organizer thingees, within my reach from the driver's seat...

even better would be a on-board fire suppression system...

Hey man, sorry to hear about your car. I saw the pics, the damage didn't look that extensive. What happened?

You were my instructor at my first track day, btw...

Wow that's not good.

Fire extinguishers are super to carry, if not for you, for someone else on the road. It seems like I've come across so many people on the road with their car, RV, etc. on fire.

Yeah, Adam and I bought extinguishers the day after RS Turbos car had an engine fire.

The good extinguishers contain "Aqueous Film Forming Foam" (AFFF). It basically will seal a fire of liquid, and even if debris falls into the flammable liquid, the AFFF will reseal itself to prevent flare-ups. These FIA approved, hand held extinguishers are not cheap, but they do the job. They are refillable and worth every penny.

1.75litre : $112
2.40litre : $125
A carbon version of the 2.4litre is available (used in WRC). I don't have a price, but i would expect $$$.

I don't think it was 'fugly', looks like the guy spent alot of money of mods. Shoulda spent a little bit more for an extinguisher.

wow, $80,000 and for a total of $80,112 he could have put out the fire. I dont think it was a very good looking suby, but it was still a project someone put a lot of work into, and its sad to see them loose that. I thin I'll be saving up for one of those AFFF ones. $112 isnt really that much to protect your car or help someone else out on the side of the road.

and yes, I'd look like a ricer with it strapped somewhere inside the car, but its worth it to save my car

Yup, I have a feeling that your fire extinguisher is one of those things you dont want to cut corners on.
