Went out there for a little bit today while everything was still open. Group of surfers were out there the whole time I was there, but the waves weren't typical Maverick style. Maybe 10-12ft? Couple dropped in before I had to go, but the waves were starting to build up so more may have surfed them later on. I'll be going tomorrow, just sucks that you can't get anywhere close enough for photos. Hopefully the festival is pretty sick.
I'm in Hawaii for the weekend and the waves here have been very large. News was reporting 20 to 30 foot waves. There is a huge difference from yesterday. Nearly all the beaches are closed today.
I remember the first time I went to the contest. There was at most 200 people there. Crazy to see what it has become.

the mavericks website has been going down all morning with difficulties
they put the live stream on another site too, which is being hit hard too, but it just loaded for me
SURFLINE.COM | Global Surf Reports, Surf Forecasts, Live Surf Cams and Coastal Weather change it to full screen cause that tiny window is way too small

Sad thing is. I'd be down to paddle out on those waves........ When I don't want to what so ever. That = 15ft+ for sure.
1) tri-tip
2) football
So in this case, your assessment is incorrect. Unless of course you are being sarcastic - in which case, carry on!
