Chile has a better infrastructure than many would think, but an 8.8 quake would cripple any country. They have an infrastructure that in no way compares to Hati. They are #3 among countries in the Americas, i think in the top between 27-33 overall, in the most recent Global Competitiveness Report, which measure medium levels of economic prosperity

Just read an article on cnn.com that said this earthquake was 700-800 times stronger than the one in Haiti

Wow. We just missed this... came back from the islands.

The tsunami was supposed to hit by now... haven't read any news.

This will also hurt hati since a lot of the aid will be diverted to chile when hati still needs it

To bad the Maya calendar doesnt end in 2012 it just starts with a 1 after then.

they idea about the maya calendar is that it resets to 0 sometime in dec of 2012 but it actually just starts with a one and cycles again. since they don't start their calendar with a zero. People thinking the maya calendar ends in 2012 would be the same as people thinking our calendar ending in 10000 since we don't say 02010
