Managers and non-managers - Please fill out this quick survey

Hey everyone,

I am doing a project for one of my management classes regarding workplace productivity. Our stance is that "Positive Reinforcement improves productivity in the workplace". I need some feedback from managers and non-managers alike regarding motivation techniques. I started this thread a few weeks ago about this topic.

Non-Managers:
Job Title: ____________________________
1.How long have you been working with your company?______________

2.Is there an incentive program (i.e. bonus, commission, raise, promotion, reward, etc)?

3.Do you get recognition for good work (i.e. personal praise, employee of the month, announcements, etc)?

4.How much do you enjoy your job? (circle one)
Not enjoyable 1 2 3 4 5 Very enjoyable

5.How stressful is your job? (circle one)
Not stressful 1 2 3 4 5 Extremely stressful

6.Have you personally received a reward from an incentive program at your current job?

Managers:
1.How long have you held a managerial position at your current job?

2.Do you use positive reinforcement in the workplace?
a.If yes, examples?
b.How has it been successful (specifically on productivity?)

3.Are there any repercussions for bad performance?
a.If yes, examples?
b.How successful has this been?

4.Since gaining your position, have you implemented any techniques to increase productivity (in general)?

5. Are you satisfied with your techniques/ results?
a. If not, what can you do to improve?

----------------

If you need clarification on any of the questions, don't hesitate to ask.

** Feel free to PM me if you don't want to openly discuss this**

Thanks for your time.

-Rob

Morning Bump.

I really need some opinions. This shouldn't take very long. I need at least 10 non-managers to reply.

thanks.

Sure, I'll help:

Managers:
1.How long have you held a managerial position at your current job?
--three years in this role with a combined ten years of management experience.

2.Do you use positive reinforcement in the workplace?
a.If yes, examples?
--public recognition, employee of the quarter, awards and gifts and "thank you" emails/notes. We also hold quarterly meetings with lunch and happy hour afterwards, and annual retreats to Carmel.
b.How has it been successful (specifically on productivity?)
--We work in project teams so everyone is accountable for their part and when someone does not pull their weight, it is immediately discovered. Rather than pinpointing the weak link, we pair them with a senior member to help them along with the project while giving them a learning experience.

3.Are there any repercussions for bad performance?
a.If yes, examples?
--verbal warning, then written warning, followed by verbal+written and then you're out. In seven years, we've only let one person go.
b.How successful has this been?
--Single digit turnover rate over seven years is pretty good. We don't like to set anyone up for failure; we often recognize if it's our (management's) fault and we try to harbor a learning environment to help everyone along.

4.Since gaining your position, have you implemented any techniques to increase productivity (in general)?
--We're already a hi-performing company so I would imagine it would be hard to push them any harder.

5. Are you satisfied with your techniques/ results?
--Yes. Our turnover rates are really low and our practice for hiring is pretty solid so we find we good people that have similar goals. We seem to attract people who don't want to be bored or have an easy job - everyone wants more challenges which is good. We hire right.
a. If not, what can you do to improve?
--There's always room for improvement - but we're still looking at how to plan, initiate and execute better.

hope this helps.

Also, can you share the results? I'd like to know what others are doing.

Thanks!

Thank you for your time! Your response is helpful. Do you mind telling me what industry you work in?

I will definitely post our conclusion.

Industry is Professional services - specifically a niche of IT/software consulting in the Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing industry.

Oh and if you want a lot of responses, you should try Linked In > and then join a business group to get responses. You should get 20+ by the end of the day....

Job Title: Valet Parker
1.How long have you been working with your company? Almost 2 years

2.Is there an incentive program (i.e. bonus, commission, raise, promotion, reward, etc)?

We collect the tips, pool it, and split it evenly to each runner (valet parker)

3.Do you get recognition for good work (i.e. personal praise, employee of the month, announcements, etc)?

Our boss separates the jobs based on experience, the more experienced workers work at fancier places.

Nope.

My job is very laid back, because we're hired for events, we only park cars in the beginning and end of the event, and also the occasional stragglers. The job is very flexible, as employees we choose if we want to work the job or not, and if not, then the boss calls someone else to check if they're available. I am currently a college student so this job is perfect for me since my school schedule makes it impossible to have set work times.

I'm actually not sure about openings, but all the jobs are in SF. Honestly, there really is NO stress what-so-ever. The only thing I do is park parks for about the first 30mins-hour of the beginning and end of event, all the time in between, we just go to corner store to buy food, or just hang out and chat it up. If there was a 0 I'd put 0 instead of 1.

Your events must be easier than ours

What company are you at?

I'm working for paper street parking. Which company do you work for? I feel like all events are the same
