Sheet aluminum you can probably get down at Orchard Supply, but the stainless you'll need to check out a welding supply house. Check the Yahoo yellow pages and search for "welding supply" - there's a ton of places in the area.

As for cutting with tin snips, that'll work but cutting even mild steel that's thicker than 16g or so can be a pretty miserable experience. A local machine shop could probably cut the brackets for you for a reasonable price, especially if you run off a few sets. Or get some other people to jump on the mudflap bandwagon and split the cost.

no, not planning on it at least.
I will hopefully be going up to Yreka and meet up with Pete Soper for a pre-check, and then I would like to work the TSD rally event he is putting on. Its hot up there, but soooo beautiful!

My girlfriends mom lives in Weaverville too so I have a place to crash while up there.

but anyways, the point is, I do not want to go searching for a place to get the stuff, and I know someone on here knows where I can get the material.
WEAVERVILLE!!!!!!! yes.

I love driving the roads up there past shasta.

My little brother works on Trinity..dock boy. I'll be up there at least once maybe twice this year. Gonna head up just after peak season and get a big *** house boat and party for a few days with a group of people. Last time I was there I killed two 24 cases of carona myself in less than 3 days plus some crown and some other people's beer.

Better make your reservation at the Betty Ford Clinic soon, too. Wouldn't want to be put on a waiting list or anything...

You don't really need brackets - you can use the factory holes. I picked up mud flaps from http://fastlineonline.com/ several years ago, and they've weathered through 3 years of rallycross. With all the abuse in the gravel though I do have to replace some of the mounting screws every now and then.

[Edit: here's a pic of those flaps mounted (same as mine): http://fastlineonline.com/images/products/upgrade.jpg]

Do you also mount the mud flaps up front to keep the rocks and debris from chipping the paint on the side of your car?

I see them only mounted in the rear, in that article.

Yes, both front and rear wheel wells.

Werd! That's how mine looked.

Having them up front rocks. It's flat-out AMAZING how clean they keep the sides of your car as long as they stick out of the wheel well maybe an inch. They made a huge, huge difference on road trips...

How much does this special plastic cost for the whole project (front/rear)?

EDIT: also, how much does it cost for the whole setup? (including the clips and stuff)

to make the flaps? I am still looking in to it. there is this new material that TAPs has that is made from recycle tires nad plastics that seems like it would be perfect for flaps!
Plus it helps save old tires from going to the waste!

I will let you know once I find out.
If I have to buy enough material to make more then a single pair I am going to post them in the nor-cal classifieds.
