Magazine subscription

So last week my dad got an Entertainment Weekly magazine in the mail addressed to him, and this week received another. He never subscribed to it or anything. What should we do? Just leave it alone and continue receiving them or call them up and tell them to stop? My dad doesn't want to get billed. Any advice?

If he does get charged and it's sent to collections. All you really have to do is send a letter saying you never agreed to the subscription, they have no proof, and you're willing to take any and all legal action on principle, even if the cost far exceeds the collection amount... unless they remove the charges and strike the collection attempt from your credit record.

Worked for me. A collection agency's business model doesn't include legal fees on a $30 collection. They'll do anything you ask after you let them know you're willing to take legal action over $30.

I called EW up and they said a company called Subco subscribed him to the magazine. I asked EW how they got my dad's info and they said it's all Subco and any questions you have to deal with them. Currently on hold with Subco at the moment....probably going to give me the run-around. Can't cancel with EW, have to do it through Subco...

So just got off the phone with them, I asked how I (me impersonating my dad) got the subscription, they told me that I got it as a bonus through some purchase online or through the phone. Kinda questionable, because my dad doesn't know a thing about computers or the internet, so he would never make an online purchase. Same goes with phone orders.

They said there will be no charge and asked if I would like to keep the subscription. I told them no. Who knows what will happen after a year goes by, probably have to go through the cancellation process again. So I declined and that was it.

that has happened to me before.. but i was aware of it.. pretty much free issues when signing up. sometimes a place like wirefly.com would if you that option upon signing up. I figured oh well i'll just cancel it before the free issues are up.. and i did. no problems after that...its usually just a "promotion offer"
