Maaco painting service?
Yeah. I've heard a lot of conflicting info about Maaco. Although I've heard a lot of horror stories of bad service and poor quality (even for the value), some people have told me that you can make Maaco work out if you do the research and 'get stuff in writing'. So are there any "good" Maaco's? I'm going to go paint an old honda civic (clearly not worth getting a quality paint job), wondering what the price quote on that'll be and how to get the best out of it...
The paint will be crap within 2-3 years. I mean complete crap. And be prepared for overspray all over the place. Orange peeling, dust in the paint, etc. But it's cheap. If you do all the prep work (sanding, priming), then it won't be as bad.

I've heard they really only skimp on the body work. No first hand expierience, but if you do all the body and prep work, and all they do is shoot it, it might be okay. Probably, if you wet sand it yourself after ( a lot of work) it would look really good. If it was really that bad, they wouldn't be in business.

I had my hood done there. Turned out really good, I was surprized. The color matched perfect. But yes, make sure to do any prep work yourself cause they wont do it
My buddy just had his 69 bug painted there, well they TOTALLY fuxked up the whole thing! The paint is peeling, some doesnt match, dust can be seen under the paint and drips all over the place! He spent over 3k on the paint and it looks like what there cheap *** jobs should cost. I would use spray paint, it will come out better
.
He went to the one in Santa Rosa btw...

verc, let me know if you go thru with it. I have a VW beater that I have been thinking about going this route. any paint job is better than what is on there now.

I haven't tried Maaco, but I have tried both Earl Scheib and Miracle. Earl Scheib is as bad as everyone says it is, but I had pretty good results from Miracle this last time. I did the bodywork myself, and they painted the car for $399. Not too bad, but you do get what you pay for. I went to the one on Brokaw in San Jose, and the guys there are pretty easy to work with. They put everything in writing for your estimates. I've attached a picture of my CRX that they painted. Some of you might have seen at Sears Point at couple of weekends ago.
I need to just get a '94 Ford Bronco Hood painted.
I don't know much about sanding or priming, what does it take?
DO they have a way to match the stock color?
Any recommendations for peninsula location?
dan.

. The reason he chose maaco was because somebody on his block recomended it and got him a discount. 3k was way too much for what he got. Other than the paint the car is looking good
.Damn, I miss my bug!
