Loyola Marymount University vs. Santa Clara University
Opinions? Experiences? I am looking at both colleges. I'm undeclared but leaning towards a liberal arts/communications/MAYBE business (
) major. I am leaning towards SCU. I've been to both campuses (SCU extensively), but I never got a formal tour of LMU because they were closed on holiday when I was there.

I have been to both. LMU was nice, the location is nice too, its in LA but its still seperated from it on that hill. I got into Santa Clara but ended up not applying to LMU cause i didnt feel liek doign the essay lol. i would say it depends on location since the schools are pretty much the same, expensive, private, religious schools

I haven't been to SCU, but I have a number of friends who attended LMU (my fiance's brothers are both alumni as well). They all enjoyed their education there. Do you know which has the better program for what you may want to major in?

I am a LMU alumni but just about everyone else in my family as well as many of my friends went to SCU.
The differences between the schools are very small. Both are small Jesuit liberal arts universities. If you are into college sports, SCU has more higher rated programs than LMU at this time. Depending on what you want to study (yes I know you are sort of up in the air about this), one school might have a better program than the other but probably not by much (film etc being the exception).
I chose LMU because I wanted to get away from home. Otherwise, I could have has a similar experience at SCU.
Also, the weather/beach in socal is a nice benefit but at the same time you have to deal with all the "pretty" people in socal that think that they are better than you (yes I know this is a sweeping generalization...). It would also seem to me that LMU has more of the "big city" atmosphere around it whereas SCU does not. (I am not much of a city person so this bugged me after awhile).
I ended up with an opinion that LA sucked except for the beaches and about 1 mile inland from those beaches after 4 years down there. Your mileage my vary.
Good luck.

scu '08 woot. also baic ftw, but most importantly scu has better college town atmosphere whereas lmu has none. scu is surrounded by businesses, housing, etc that are linked to scu in someway and makes everything convenient. also, driving in santa clara is good. bigger parking spaces, smoother roads, no **** cops.

Hey thanks for the replies everyone. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go to SCU, but further comments are always welcome. SCU is across the freeway from my high school so I was wondering if maybe I should go to LA for a change of scenery, but I have been pretty content living in the Bay Area. We'll see. Maybe I'll visit LMU on Saturday just in case.

I'd chose SCU. Of my two best friends, one went to SCU, the other to LMU, so although I didn't attend either, I have spent a good amount of time at both. They are pretty similar schools so it really comes down to a pref. between norcal and socal. One friend is crazy about surfing, so he chose Loyola, the other was crazy about the bay area social scene, so he chose SC. It seemed to work out for them.
