Exclamation A lot less traffic during rush hour nowadays... sign of the times?

Has anyone else noticed that the freeways are just not as congested, even when compared to a few months ago. At first, I thought it was the holidays but it's almost February. Is it because of the job market and the economy?

That said, I read this article about how traffic tickets increase with a slumping economy, so watch out for the po po out there. The article says how less tax revenue results in compensating that with tickets. This, combined with less people on the road, makes the probability of getting that ticket just that much greater.

With my new car, I never drive over 70mph since I am more concerned with MPG (diesel). So I haven't even worried about speeding in awhile.

However when I'm on the bike........rarely under 80mph.

That was made apparent with the surge in tickets on modified vehicles mid-late last year.

I've been commuting from Newark to Alameda M-F since October of last year, and definitely have noticed a decrease in traffic.. especially this past month.

You know it would be interesting if all the hot spots the cops hide out to hand out tickets were blogged...like something on google map. McCarthy Ranch in Milpitas would definitely be all red dots everywhere!

I've noticed a decrease in traffic and an increase in chp activity, i've noticed speed traps on either one or both sides of 280 in Cupertino almost everyday.

interesting project, if you pitched it to the guys at google i bet theyd go for it. they do all kinds of little location finder things for independent clients.

I have noticed a lot more CHP activity, I play soccer out in the valley on weekends and have seen way more CHP hiding out on 580 and around 205 than I ever used to. It used to take me 45 mins flying down the freeway to get to the games now I have to chill with the cruise control on and take 55 mins.

actually I was just thinking about how there has been much less traffic on my way to and from foothill. The last two days I was driving back to san jose from school (on 280 south) I saw a chp parked on the left side shoulder with his radar gun pointing towards oncoming traffic !

Thanks for the heads up. I gotta stay safe out there

WAY more CHP out here in SC county. I used to see one every couple weeks out by my house. Now its one or two a day. And that's not counting the freeway and old san jose road. It can go from 1 to 4 a day. Then toss in 1 or 2 sheriffs a day.
