I use OEM Subaru filters only and will be switching to Subaru synthetic oil. I was talking to a shop the other day and he recommended it. He carries Total also, but said the Subaru oil is just as good and costs a lot less. I did notice when I had my 90K done that the Subaru oil seemed to be a bit superior to the Mobil 1 I've been using.

They discontinued the black filters a while back and replaced them with the supposedly inferior blue filter.

Because it works. Aside from the varnish issues that DB mentioned (which I cannot personally verify), it is a damned good oil. Thousands of positive UOA cannot be wrong. Can you quantify or put some objective measure on "Motul is by far the best I have used", or is this just a statement of your opinion? I can post UOA for every oil change on my car since 9k miles, so I assume you have done the same based on that statement

Ya there was a lot of **** talking about the "inferior" blue filter a year or 2 ago, but how many "my blue filter failed and killed my motor" threads have you read recently? Of course Mike told me about a little secret regarding the black filters

Most filters will do the job fine as long as you change it frequently, but I either use oem or whatever gst sells (tokyo roki?)

I buy mine from gst directly because I drive by there frequently, or buy oem filters off ebay
