I used to use spring compressors, now I just use the quick clamps...one on each side. It is not as secure, but you only need a little tension to keep anything from popping off. I have it down to <5 minutes per strut now...not including strut removal and install time

Secure the strut bottom in a vice, then take your O wrench set (needed so you can put a 6 mm hex through to hold the strut shaft in place) and take the top nut off.

Honestly, it is harder to get the strut bolts off, but a 1/2" breaker bar with a jack handle and some PB blast usually does the trick.

I don't trust most shops for this, because I have seen camber bolts stripped using impact wrenches. I prefer to take my time and use non-air tools for most stuff.

PS: google "WRX spring install"

scoobymods.com has a couple of detailed spring install tutorials. DIY ftw!

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, but I'll let someone who's done it before handle this one. I read the NASIOC forums how to... that's why I'm NOT trying this one solo
I'd hate to find the kids & I stranded in Tahoe next month b/c something I overlooked decided to come loose. I'll leave my great wrenching skills to tune-ups and simple bolt-ons for the time being!

Suby suspension is hella easy to work on. Ive done a few spring/strut and coilover setups an a few Subys, and it was only slightly intimidating the first time
