I don't understand why people are raising a stink about this. Coming from a traditional Chinese family, my parents are much more comfortable dealing and speaking in Chinese. So IF I were to take them to a dealership with the purpose of having them deal/buy me a car, I would rather them do the dealing b/c they are the ones paying for the car. It will also save me from having to translate every word, especially when my Chinese isn't very good.

It's just the Chinese mentality. Eric (MexicanPizza), I'm not doubting your lowball skills, but Vietnamese/Chinese traders haggle much more than anyone else I've done business with. It's so commonplace that it's a protocol, so they have "their system" of dealing.

I don't think it reflects HellaDumb's comment on it being racist. It's not that they don't want to give business to a non-Asian salesman; they jsut want someone familiar with their dealing style/techniques/semantics.

I'm vietnamese and Chinese, I speak Vietnamese and Catonese but I agree with mexican pizza because that kind of attitude where I "have to deal with my own" is representative of minorities and their inability or lack of desire to deal with other races/socio-economic groups. That in turn does not allow for racial integration and only furthur alienates and isolates small knit communities in America. examples? The intensely "savage" potrayal of Muslims(often confusing them with Arabs) in media, racial stereotypes of asians in pop media. To fix the problem, minorities have to compromise their cultural identity a bit to be a part of American society. Plus, it's just a car....

Just send an email to Carlsen. They'll hook you up w/ a great price it that's what you are looking for. "Dollars" is a universal language.

hit it right on the head. I can't even hold a conversation with my parents in chinese much less translate a car purchase. i'd feel much better knowing my parents can understand the salesperson and vice versa. stop turning this into such a big deal. the man is just trying to look for a dealership where he can deal with without going through a lot of hassle
