Welcome to America, learn english plzkthx.

Either that, or pay me a modest fee and I will negotiate a better price than your family could on their own.

Why? Do you think you will get a better price?

As a Chinese American, I won't buy from an Asian Car Salesperson or hire an Asian contractor!

Get price quotes on the internet. No racial info needed.

It's so funny how I joke around and people think I'm a racist.

This sort of thing is widespread and a demonstration of true racism:

By the way, you need to watch your as_ with any transaction involving sums of money, regardless of the race.

If his parents were bilingual, I'd be jealous. But since they can't function with english, they aren't bilingual.

Time to make an official language.

If that's the case, you should simply ask for a salesperson that speaks vietnamese. Dollars are dollars, so I don't know why language even matters.

Why don't you just go along and be the interpreter?

What's wrong with people that want to speak their native language?

Because in America, English is the chosen and accepted language that allows people to communicate. If people negotiating for something, such as a car, don't speak the same language, the buyer might get ripped off by a questionable seller due to the language barrier.

I'm all for the entire American population learning English as I've seen people in the workplace get taken advantage of when they lack English language skills. Plus some of the posts on this board might be intelligible if people learned the language!

But it's fun talkin' shiet about other people in foreign languages
I don't see what's so wrong about panda's folks wanting to speak Vietnamese to a car dealer.
Maybe it's because I'm trilingual, nearly quadralingual?

... exactly WHY can't you do the translating/negotiating? You are doing all the research. You will have all the knowledge you need to get a good deal (if not, check www.carbuyingtips.com , and get car info from www.edmunds.com or www.kbb.com ). You should be able to negotiate the deal. It is IRRELEVENT who is signing the papers. If you and the sales manager get into an aggreement as to the right price, and you explain it to your parents, and the paperwork accurately reflects the offer, and they sign it... it's a done deal.

You don't need a Vietnamese salesperson.

If you ABSOLUTELY want one, you will have to try in the South Bay, like San Jose area, because there is a heavy concentration of Vietnamese there.... but you really don't need one.

... and just to clarify, I'm an immigrant and speak more than one language.
