get some it is cheap protection.

 

+1 on getting some kind of locking lug nuts. Delays the theif's attempt at trying to get it.

in additon to locks, upgrade security. theif would rather steal the car, than stand around outside fumbling with wheels.

In the last two years of reading threads of peoples cars getting stolen, it is almost always up in berkely. I don't live there but I will not park my car in that city for more then 20 minutes.

If you just have to have expensive wheels, get an alarm, get 5 different sets of locking lugs, and mix up how many of each lug type are on each wheel. And do NOT keep the keys inside your car!

Theives need to be beaten down. If I caught some one trying to jack my ****, I will make sure they will not leave with all their fingers in tact. You can't do **** if you're missing fingers.

 

lol, I've had to deal with that back when I was at work @ ATC. The guy had 3 different types of wheel locks. PITA to take off and put back on because they all looked the same with just a different lock pattern.

I had put on mcgard's tuners lugnuts this saturday at Auto Innovations,
and after that, my steering wheel will shakes excessively when i am above 75mph.
something wrong with the lugnuts?
what else could have caused this problem?

 

DOUBT ITS THE LUG NUTS. its the wheels probably being unbalanced. get a quick $20 balancing and it should fix it. theyll just stick some wheel wieghts onto the inner part of the wheels.

 

But it didn't happen before with the stock lugnuts on the wheels.
it happened after they put new lugnuts on.
so maybe they messed up the balance?

 

I had cheapy gorilla wheel locks on my car. It's the one w/ a sleeve...and I was totally shocked at how hard they were to take off...when I lost my key.

BAsically it took a entire car garage full of tools, chipper, drill, and 4 technicians to get the wheels off...throw in a blow torch for good measure. Took about 2 hours too.

This was after I visited multiple wheel store to see of they had any "keys".

So wheel locks do work....as long as keys aren't readily available.

as for location, a friend's g35 wheels were stolen when parked in an apartment garage in santa clara (middle class area too).

Cheap insurance and makes the casual wheel thief think twice or consider another car without locks.

 

as far i know when they balance wheels on the machine, they dont use the lug nuts. are you using all matching mcgards? or do you have some type of mismatch? im out of ideas, perhaps someone else knows.

 

First thing to check, make sure no weights fell off during the installation of the wheels. I'm guessing you use tape weights (ones that stick to the inner barrel of the wheel). They can fall off if the wheel isn't cleaned properly prior to putting the weights on, or if it rubs the brake assembly while putting the wheels on.

Second thing to check, make sure your wheels are all flush with the hub. Lugs should make little/no difference for your wheels since they're on the hub and have almost no impact on the wheel inertia. sometimes the lugs can be tight, but the wheel isn't on correctly. This can cause studs to break or wheels to come off if driven on.

Third, get a rebalance from whomever balanced your wheels and make sure they're up to spec.

BOOOST4 - it's a lot easier to take off wheel locks than you think. Those tools you listed are not the right tools to get them off. I shouldn't list the actual tools (even though I'm sure a lot of you know them) just to not give anyone else ideas when reading the boards.

 

I just bought a car with locking lugs on it but the car didn't come with the key. I couldn't easily find a place to get the key so I decided to take them off without a ket.

It literally takes about 10 seconds more to get the locking lug nut off than it does to take the regular ones off (as long as you have the tools there and ready).

I have splined lugs, but don't expect them to help at all.
