Thumbs down

I do agree, not all frats are bad nor are all the people, but 'initiations' seem very common and to me is very lame.

Its like a continuation of high school stupidity, you have to prove to everyone else you are cool enough to hang with them. I think thats why people make such a general statement that frats are lame.

Don't get me wrong. That sucks about the kid and his family. I hate to hear about things like this. But the problem isn't the fraternities, its the kids who are in it.

I went to college, I was invited to pledge. I went there the first night and thought it was the stupidest thing ever. They were telling me that I have pay so much per quarter. That I have to dress a certain way, carry certain things for the 'brothers'. I was like, this is lame. I don't need to pay people to be their friend. I don't need to carry cigarettes and condoms for them to feel cool. Maybe others are different, I don’t know.

If the problem isn't the fraternity and the kids who are in it doesn't that mean the problem is the fraternity?

I tried to join a frat. I rushed. I did all the stupid **** like clean the seniors' room and drink this and that. But the head honcho had it in for me cause I like 80's music and Celine Dion. Plus I danced like a whitey. My cousin Will, who was also rushing, tried to stick up for me and tried to cover up all of my mistakes, but it didn't work. In the end, the head honcho said I was too much of a sell-out and wasn't "black" enough....not enough of a "brotha". When I got home and told my dad, he dissappointed wondered "when are we gonna stop doing this to each other." It was a sad moment.

/sigh...I miss the fresh prince.

well i hate getting into these threads cus nothing good comes out of them. If you didnt pledge and arent a brother than you dont understand and you cant really pass judgement on ALL fraternities. If you did pledge and are a Brother then you cant change what other people think. This is a horrible death, and that House will be dealt with accordingly.

I agree. It's impossible to relate to somebody the ins and outs of being in a fraternity. If I hadn't joined I wouldn't have gotten the internship I did, which helped me get my job, which payed for my WRX.

Different strokes for different folks....Diversity is why the world is so nice. (ie. asian women, black women, white women, etc, etc. )

My condolences to the family. that sucks
