Reminds me of those cinematic scenes in Final Fantasy games.

As compared to the manga I mean. The anime cut out books 3 though 5 and abbreviated the story imensely, creating a hard to follow sequence of awesome artistry. As far as quality though, I would agree there hasn't even been much recently that can compare. And I did like the fact that the anime was available in english, cause trying to read japanese is an unholy pain the butt.

Its been the longest time since I've seen Akira; probably before I was ever a teenager. It was really hard for me to understand what was happening, but I guess its either because the anime was missing some novels or I was just too young to appreciate good anime. One of the only other animes that in my opinion could compare are the original Macross Series (a.k.a. Robotech for the uneducated)

What the hell are you talking about. You must be high.
For the massive amount of story he was working with that is one of the all-time greatest anime films ever (or films for that matter)

BTW, there's another really good anime-based live action movie available now. It's "Azumi", the story of a kunoichi (female ninja). Samurai movie fans will love it too. I've only seen about 20 minutes of it, but I really liked what I saw and wanna rent it now
Oh, and the main actress, Ueto Aya, is super cute!!! (She's also jailbait though, being what 17 or so?)
