About time... and of course oBAMMER cuts NASA spending... dumb ***.

There have been bacteria and other animals that just live in extreme climates period. Even around underwater volcanic areas with thousand degree temps, for example. About damn time... but what are we doing about it? Oh cut spending. Ty and go **** urself OBAMMER

Seriously? You fool. Do you even understand what this discovery means?

Why are you referencing underwater microbes? Do you think that simply the existence of an organism in an extreme climate should automatically produce ground-breaking scientific discoveries upon financial funding and subsequent research? Do you think that NASA's funding relies solely on their ability to produce results in a small sector of their research?

Until you understand, at a basic level, what this discovery means and how it came about you should really refrain from any more input.

I think I have to agree with this. The point of the discovery isn't the existence of microbial life in extreme environments, that's old hat.

This discovery was inevitable, of course there are studied things of toxic and technically inhabitable areas on OUR planet, why wouldn't it be on a different planet? This discovery is something that was long overdue, and whether the funding or not from this particular department is small or large didn't justify the idea of spending cuts... THE WHOLE IDEA OF SPENDING $$ TO FIND OUT WHAT ELSE IS OUT THERE SHOULD BE IMPORTANT.

Obama should have spent some cash on NASA since there is a whole load of space out there. But instead he made cuts to it (for whatever reason, not just exploration of space) to our brilliant scientists @ NASA.

Way in grade school when I had to learn the history of civilization, one thing I remember taking away from that was...the civilizations who could spend time and money in arts, music, and science were those that had the extra time and resources. This is a fundamental idea that still applies today. The United States right now does not have the money to spend money for space exploration or research about the origins of life. There are more important things that the money can go to like creating jobs and investing in small businesses, and help rebuild the economy. This discovery is not going to help us get out of debt. Once we're in a better situation, I am all for putting money in NASA and research to further our understanding of ourselves and the nature around us.

It is truly amazing to me that people can continue to think like this. It is nothing short of a detriment to our society.

Our country is in a terrible position economically- and it's not getting any better. We maintain a staggering national debt that has thus far been unable to be brought under control. On a larger scale, the entire world economically is struggling as well. First Greece, now Ireland, and I'm sure more will follow. Do you understand there is a finite amount of money that's available to be spent? Do you understand that there is an almost endless number of better ways that money can be spent right now than on research?

Obama should have spent some cash on NASA because there is a whole load of space out there.
You're right. While people here in the US are underwater with their mortgages, filing for bankruptcy left and right, and closing more and more small businesses we should definitely be throwing our money at space exploration. We'd be hard-pressed to even land on the moon again today, let alone explore anything else within our solar system.

Before you criticize the current administration (or any administration), you had better understand what's going on. Money isn't getting cut because NASA is unimportant, it is being cut because it is less important.
