Legal question
Haha,
One of my chick friends is freaking out... She got pulled over a while back and got a ticket for no insurance. Her insurance expired 2 weeks before she got pulled over. Her smarty pants friend of her, "fixed" her insurance card for her via photoshop so that it shows that she was covered. She went to the traffic court window and showed it as proof. It was accepted and the violation cleared (she still paid some minimum silly fine for it instead of a hefty one). But, the clerk took a copy of the chopped insurance id card.
Now, I got pulled over myself before too when I did not have my insurance card with me. I did have insurance so I did the same. Went to court, showed it to clerk and they just looked at it and signed off the violation.
I told her that but she is freaking out because they took a copy of hers. Do they actually verify that info? I told her no, becuase that violation could have been signed off by any cop. They just look at it and sign it off. So, did they just took a copy for a record or for further verification?
I personally don't think it is a big deal. Of course, what she did was not exactly right, but she is young and was afraid of her parents blowing up on her for a $1,000 insurance ticket...
What do you guys think?

Even if you appear in front of the judge to dismiss your no insurance violation, you just give the proof to the sherif dude that stands next to the judge, he shows it to the judge and the judge just looks at it and gives it back. I too don't think they verify it. I mean unless it is a hand written note or something, haha.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. They have better things to do than randomly going back to her file, pulling the photocopy, calling her insurance company to verify, and then bring charges to her

Tell your friend that if she ever pisses you off, you will rat her out

Does she have the insurance now though?
If they do check, and the insurance co., says "Yes, she has coverage." then all should be fine. But if the traffic court asks a more intelligent questions like "Did she have coverage during this timeframe?" and the Insurance co. comes back with a big old "NO"........she could be in huge trouble. False offical documents is bad....
Hard to get a good answer without calling and saying.."Hi, I have this friend that was wondering......" lol

I have no advice, but if the 'chick friend' your talking about is KT, you can tell her she can hide out from the cops at my house till the heat dies down

Not her, haha. Local friend.
So yeah, I called a diff court and asked them if they ever verify that info. They said no. As long as it an official document with all the right info. Which it was.
She owes me now...

i, personally would do the right thing. i would make sure my insurance is all squared away and then go to the clerks office and say;
"hay, i came in a while back to clear up some insurance issues with a ticket, and i think there is a small chance i actually gave you the wrong card. would you mind doing me a favor, and adding a copy of this curent insurance ticket to my file. just in case?"
the, out of sight out of mind mantality has bitten me in the *** before. and considering this could be fraud. for submitting a fraudlent document, it would behoove you not to at least attempt to remidy it.

I wouldn't worry too much. If anything IS ever made of it, chalk it up to a problem with the insurance company sending her out a bad card. So long as she didn't have any intent to defraud the government, then no crime has been committed.
That being said, why didn't she just get insurance later, go in to court proving that she now had it, and call it good? I think so long as you can prove that you have it currently, they don't really care all that much. Like a fix-it-ticket...
