Legacy Owner Question

My mom owns a 2009 Legacy Sedan PZE. She told me that the "BRAKE" light came on while she was driving and wanted to bring it in to get it checked. I tested it out and it would only come on if I would break really hard. Question is, has anyone encountered this? I don't really want her to take it to some dealership so they can charge her just to tell her the pads need changing. I'd rather change those myself. thanks!
car has about 32k on original pads. she bought it used so i'm not sure if it's ever been changed.

Did you check the brake fluid level?

I have never experienced that problem, but I have a different year and a GT.

simon, car should still be under the 3 years 36k mile warranty, She should be able to get the brake pads replaced under warranty if it is causing an issue

My wife's '08 Legacy non GT had the stock pads last for 70,000 miles. I doubt there is a problem with the pads. Definitely check the fluid levels.

The only odd thing with her car is the airbag light turns on randomly.

Does her car have the abs passenger light on the top where the map lights are at? If so there was an issue with that if i remember where it was causing the air bag light to go on.

brake light should be either low pads or fluid, check both and since it's under warranty bring it in also to see what they say.
