LED license plate lights keep going out
I'm on my 3rd set of LED license plate bulbs and they just don't seem to last very long. My newest pair flicker every 30 seconds or so and it bugs the crap out of me. I looked it up online and it doesn't seem that the 2006 STi has CAN Bus so I'm not sure if I should pick up the bulbs with built in resistors.

Sounds like too much voltage to the LED's, any way to measure how much power the sockets provide? or to compare the specs from the OEM bulbs to the LED's you are using?
....this is what I was thinking. Also, what brand is it, that you're buying? Although i'll say, that the license plate frame bulbs do seem to blow the most.
I've had the best luck with the LED bulbs from VLED.

I don't have any way to measure how much power to socket makes. I've bought LEDs from V-LED twice and once from superbrightleds and I think I even tried eBay ones but to no avail.
Would it hurt to try the CAN Bus LEDs?

I might have a couple sitting in my garage you can have, I've had the same ones on my 2011 since I bought it and no issues. I'll try to find the brands name I purchased.
Are you sure they are burnt?
I had a problem where they sometimes wouldn't turn on when I first installed them. Sometimes it was only 1 and sometimes it was both of them at the same time. I ended up getting some diode electrical grease, pushed it in/out several times and have had no problems since. Been around 6 months now and still okay
