On a side note do you know a guy by the nale Alvin Tan? I belive he had a huge build on his evo done at LIC a year or 2 ago.
dont know anyone named Alvin. But if it was contracted through Vishnu back in the day (like 3+ years ago), it could of been. We did there turbo kit installs many many years ago on the evo's.

I'm picking up one of these bad boys from LIC in a couple days.

Another lucky customer getting a 2.5l hybrid setup .

I do have to say its a bit odd that SOA revised a part that has little to no failure rate and yet they do nothing to the pistons which are the main point of failure.

I have never had a factory block be bad...which is what i would expect from a manf. We have done I'm sure in the hundreds of short block swaps by now....still never had one fail (from factory related issues). And when you have a bone stock car (like our customer currently getting this block), it doesnt warrant a built motor or even the suggestion of it IMHO....the factory block is the way to go!

I think flatline was referring to the individual dealers physically doing the work...and I have heard plenty of horror stories myself, I get plenty of disappointed customers from the dealer but we all have our own stories to tell I'm sure somewhere folks complain about me too, its just part of it.

and I agree, subie paint does suck

*and just to add to this...we have installed dozen's of Crawford motors....never have we ever had an issue with them either (and yes I know the stories told by others but I can only speak from our first hand experiences, never had any issues on our end). In fact some of the biggest project builds ever to leave our shop have been on Crawford blocks

Would be nice if they plated the bearing surfaces with TiN or TCiN. From the looks of the naked crank, that coating is just for corosion resistance. The crank doesn't see temperatures high enough to take advantage of the benefits of nitriding, and I can't see a benefit to increasing just the surface hardness NOT on the bearing surfaces. As some one already mentioned, the crank is already plenty strong.
