KTVU and Officer Rosetti
You/we all need to let KTVU know about this Rosetti cop. After watching that video in Sta. Rosa speed trap, I think we all have a chance on getting heard about his prejudice approach on automobiles.

"This is Melissa Northcott reporting for KTVU news TipLine. We have received reports that Officer Rosette of the PD has been issuing tickets to local sports car drivers for having illegal modifications to their cars. KTVU wants YOU to know that Officer Rosette is ticketing people who have broken the law. We all know thats wrong, and this reporter wanted to tip you off."
Really. If you don't want to get pulled over, don't have illegal mods. I agree that modifying a catback should not make the car illegal. A new intake shoudl not make the car illegal. Hell, a new turbo and EM shou;dn't make the car illegal. As such, I am drafting an initiative to change the requirement such that all vehicles must simply pass a sniffer test, not have all stock equipment.
Rather than hassling (an admittedly ********) cop for what does qualify as his job, how about you take action and do something about changing the laws?

i have a high level of respect for police officers and always treat them with respect (that's probably why i get more warnings than tickets), but I feel that if an officer is going to decide that ticketing sports cars for illegal modifications is a part of their job, they need to learn about the subject instead of just blindly writing tickets for anything that appears non-stock. if a motorist goes out of their way to make sure their mods are in full compliance with the law, the responsibility should lie with the officer to prove guilt rather than with the motorist to prove innocence.

an intake doesn't make your car illegal either. as long as the one installed has a CARB E.O. sticker attached, it is perfectly legal.

Right, but given that an intake DOESN'T affect emissions significantly (if at all), it shouldn't even need to be regulated.
The legislation I'm writing will make pretty much anything legal as long as you can pass a sniffer test. Want a giganto turbo w/ huge FMIC and a single highflow cat? Sure, as long as you can pass emissions (sniffer) and safety (no compromising bumper beams) and noise (90dB is fine, and while I won't get it, I'd want motorcycles to fall within this as well).
Doesn't that make more sense for our air quality and the freedom of us car modders than CARB EO #s, capricious cops, etc?

do you really think that would fly though? it makes too much sense to actually become approved.

I would be OK with a additional registration fee every year that bought me an "exemption" from everything other than tailpipe emissions... hell, i would pay $250 a year for that without even thinking twice about it. the state would probably buy into something like that as well since it's extra (much needed) revenue for them.

I'm not in agreement about being able ot buy exemptions from noise & safety - those ought to be required. Why should you be exempt from noise limits and functional crash beams (they are there to protect others, not just you) just because you have more disposable income than I?
When I get a more complete draft written, it will be posted here and on NABISCO.
Sorry about the thread hijack.
