-Proper break-in is absolutely essential
-NEVER, EVER EVER, try to do a "Burn out," or "Launch" the car, you will destroy your transmission.
-After a long driving session, let the car idle for about a minute before turning off the engine. This is to allow the oil to cool the turbo a bit before shutting down (just a good habit, imo).
-Change your oil on a regular basis, and keep up on it.
-Try to avoid putting "crap gas" in your tank, try to stay away from "mom and pop" type hole-in-the-wall gas stations imo, pay a few extra cents for better gas, your car will thank you.

That said, if you drop the clutch from 7K every stoplight or do donuts for 5 minutes straight, then yes something will probably break....but in general the STi drivetrain is nearly bullet proof. On the rare occasion something breaks, it will most likely be an axle from a hard launch on super sticky tires running lots more power over stock.

No, thats not true. He has an STi. The STi can easily take the abuse of a random donut and occasional launch.

so subies dont need turbo timers. just cooling down the motor after pushing the car hard. wow. i drive a mr2 turbo for now and i must have a turbo timer =/ lol
Yes, that is true....you just proved my point in your second paragraph. Not to mention I cannot even begin to tell you how many "HELP! I BLEW UP MY TRANSMISSION!" threads I have read over the past 6 years or so. "Bulletproof" or not, you abuse it, you WILL break it, esp. when you are talking about an AWD system on pavement.
I havent read any threads about the STi breaking a gear....it just doesnt happen.

Yeah, Ive seen countless about the WRX....But how many of these threads were about the STi? The only ones I have seen are 350whp+ cars launching at the dragstrip on DR's that break an axle (and thats a cheap fix).

Also, 99.9% of the WRX transmission threads I have read about could easily have been due to someone that doesn't know how to drive an AWD manual. My 2003 WRX had 80,000 (yes, eighty THOUSAND) miles on the original, stock clutch before I had to replace it...even then I could have probably got another 20K out of it, and there are quite a few people on this board that can attest to the fact that I did, indeed "drive" my car.
