Also, if you have a CEL don't go straight from having it turned off to getting smogged. Wait a few days. The computer runs self-tests and a certain percentage of those have to be ready. Resetting a CEL or unplugging the battery (even jumping the car) usually causes the whole process to start over and it isn't based on key cycles, but drive cycles. Just fair warning.

when i went through this silliness last year for my 17 y/o toyota truck, i learned a few things:

1. get an oil change. before i got this, the truck was barely driven and it has been a year since i got it changed... so numbers that failed was like 130 with a max of 120.

after the oil change, it dropped down under 100. the guy was very surprised.

2. run the engine to NORMAL operating temp.

3. dont be obvious when you are missing parts... duh...

4. if you have a CEL, fix the dang thing. besides the oil change, i had a CEL that required a new O2 sensor... which was like 17 years old... doh...
Word, especially on 2. I smogged my Nissan the other day. Failed the first roller run, but passed a couple minutes later, after the car idled and warmed a bit. 202K miles, all stock, FTW!

They do have a way to check for flashes. I was speaking with the ref at work. They had to do a update class on it. So pays to keep your old parts..

They have been smogging bikes down to 1964 last few years in AZ. Bike will start mid to end of next year in cali. They are also running a tri state level 3 program with az and nev, Europe runs stricter noise and smog lws then us here in california.

But in the end its like racing. ban something to slow the cars down and they come right back with another way around it to make the same if not more power

6 years from date of original purchase before.

If the car is over 6 years old already, then the seller is responsible for smogging it.

go to evergreen valley college guys, they are so chill there, just be respectful when you show up and they wont have any problems with you. he didnt seem to care about my turbo timer and i think he saw it, cuz he kept looking under my steering wheel (that's where it is, and the screen was electrical taped for the all black look). they even commented on my car looking good.
