Just got laid off. And I'm happy.
The slow economy has finally caught up with my firm and I just got laid off about an hour ago.
I was grinning throughout the meeting.
I moved out to Fairfield on my own straight out of college to work in Napa only to find myself driving back home to SF on the weekends and commuting from Fairfield to Napa for 4+ years. Finally I can let my wrx rest a little and move back home to SF.
Funny thing is that I'll probably be making more money with funemployment by not paying rent and gas. I'll get to spend more time with family, join a gym, catch up on my to-do list, and eventually find a better job.
Here's to new beginnings.
Cheers

Congrats?
I know how you feel, Ive been there before... Happy that my job was outsourced... When you work 80+ hours a week, and at NIGHT for over a year, it wears on you... When they told me that our jobs are going to India, I smiled and said "I feel bad for India". The pay was good, but the stress probably took off 10 years of my life. F' that

I'd love to be happily unemployed. Having paid rent since age of 14, getting laid off/fired always made me a bit nervous, although whenever it happened it always turned out for the best.

Dude! this is a blessing.
I didnt get a job for a year once layed off because I was burned out from commuting 100+ miles a day.
Sf is an awesome spot, get a job out there....probably pays more anyway.
In the second half of our layoffs between 1.5-2yrs ago, when the rest of the engineering team for axed, people stood up and clapped.
GET SOME REST YO!
