Just bought a new STI over the weekend, but not very happy!!
You got hussled man.
That's got to be a demo car. And no doubt those are HARD miles.
I'd make them fix EVERYTHING on the car. New means new. They can order a wheel and fix everything else.
NEVER buy a car off a lot with more than 20 or 30 miles on it. Especially a turbo car that requires a 1000 mile break in. A lot of damage can be done in 300 miles. If I'm gonna buy a car with that many miles I'd just buy a lease return with a few thousand.
My car had 10 miles on it. That's new.

so sad... but so true...
Never, ever, ever trust anything that comes out of a salespersons mouth unless you know the guy personally. You drove it off the lot, it's pretty much a done deal. If you're looking for dealership backing you should have bought a BMW, Mercedez, Porsche,...or anything that has pride it what they sell. Subaru makes a great car, but the majority of the steelerships will pat you on the back and then later crap your face when you come back with some questions about the car.

yeah wheel techniques in san jose does good work but is pricy. I say you get em painted up something righteous to make yourself feel better. Don't feel bad man people are shiesty........thats why they call em stealerships. I knew a guy who worked where the cars come in off the boats. Ford cars.......cobras and lightings with only 3 miles on them had already done burnouts for half that length and some donuts too..........lets just say almost all the cars get raped so don't worry.
Don't be a *****, and make capitol pay for that rim being fixed...................
Just cause a stir.....................if they won't treat you right than it is our job to SHAME CAPITOL subaru and their shiesty ways.

290 miles is a lot but there are 2 schools of thought on engine breaking-in. I got an extra $2000 knocked off my 05 because it had 93 miles on it. I had done nearly 20 hard miles myself when I test drove it, but my engine makes the right amount of power and has never burnt a drop of oil after a perfectly reliable 45K miles.
Some people say you need to hard break a car-in to seat the piston rings with the cylinder wall. That debate is a whole can of worms I don't want to open.
point is, you have a goddam awesome car that will have just as many nicks and scratches on it within 3 months anyway. As soon as you mod it and get it on a dyno you will see if there are any issues, there probably won't be.
Mod it, Race it, Enjoy it. This is a happy time for you right now.

I think we need to clarify and seperate Capitol Subaru into two different catagories: Capitol's Sales Department and their Parts/Labor Department.
Parts/Labor at Capitol is second to none and by far the best service I (and quite a few others) have received.

And if you're looking for actual subaru or SPT parts you can try genuinesubaruparts.com or subarugenuineparts.com. Can't remember which.
Or Santa Cruz subaru or a couple other local subaru dealerships.
Or of course in the classifieds.

lol i was thinking of buying their lemon 07 white sti at capitol... who was ur sales guy? all their cars seem very very fishy...
first their 04 silver wrx ran like crap... they had a completely modded out wrb 07 sti with cf hood... they had a grey limited 07 sti with over 30k miles! and they had the white 07 sti's motor replace... i was very tempted to buy that white sti but eventually said id think about it...

Well if I were you, since those 290 miles are questionable in how hard it was driven. I would take your car to a mechanic and have it briefly inspect the car to see if there's any abusive evidence. And maybe it can be repaired or replaced before something worse happens.
