UNION CITY -- A James Logan High School student was hospitalized after being shot Tuesday afternoon near the campus, which was locked down after officers arrived at the scene, a New Haven Unified School District official said.
The shooting occurred at 12:09 p.m. in the Decoto district, east of the campus, and the victim was found in the intersection 14th and H streets, behind the school, said Rick La Plante, the district's spokesman.

Police described the suspect as a Latino in his early 20s, with a stocky or husky build, short brown hair, light brown beard and wearing a bright yellow construction-style vest

Authorities said a vehicle seen leaving the area was described as a white pickup truck with attached lumber-style racks and blue lettering on its side, Horner said.
