I have no idea how to do it with black rain. I remember using Cydia and stuff. After that, Installer and Summer/Winterboard are your friends.

 

Blackrain is definitely one of the easiest if not the easiest. I've used both blackrain and redsn0w.

I only used Redsn0w because I didn't know about blackrain. Anywho, blackrain is great cause it can do 3.1.x, while redsn0w can't.

I used Cydia to download Installous and Winterboard, in addition to all my apps.

i can second the usage of blackra1n

i did it on mine, took a minute to do so.
a buddy of mine had trouble, hooked him up and blackra1ned it really quick as well.

its easy peasy.

 

blackrain is literally plug and play.

redsn0w...not too much. Way too many steps and it requires you to have the firmware on the computer.

 

yeah blackra1n works it what i used too! but it all depends on yoru firmware also, if you have 3.1.2 isnt as stable also some programs arent compatible and just ask your ipod to restore .. But some of us knows the means of getting around that stuff

 

Used blackra1n earlier on my touch, super simple... now jailbroken!

can i still re-d/ the apps i paid for from the itunes store? or those are gone?

yeah you can re download them into your itouch for the one you paid for ... but if you use Installous / hackulo.us you can get all the download apps for free =)
