Jack/ramps/tools?
I'm driving into the city tomorrow.
I'm wondering if there are any places between SF and Milpitas that sell quality tools and don't try to rape you?
I need a nice low profile jack.
Some metal ramps...good ones....for my caddy.
Possibly a couple spray guns...one for primer one for paint.
Etc......
thanks.

I heard the jacks they sell there are crap? That true?
I need something sturdy cause it'll see some use with my caddy and it's got to be lowprofile for my wrx.
I don't want to spend $160 on a jack that blows in like 3 months.

kregan....no.
they have plastic ramps and their jacks are too tall for my wrx and not strong enough that I fell comfortable lifting a 4300 pound vehicle.

i think theres a place in burlingame called K11 tools or something i heard they have good stuff might want to check that out, harbor frieght is not bad for some stuff id buy jack stands there stay away from their paint guns and stay away from their aluminum "race" jack thats the biggest pile of **** go to sears and find their aluminum low pro race style jack its light, but for that heavy caddie kragen does make a decent jack if u buy the big one got to remember how heavy that car is

Costco has floor jacks, but a lot of the time they don't have them in stock. The best best bet would be Sears.

It's hard to beat Sears for good cheap tools. Also, I have seen those metal ramps bend under the weight of a couple GM sleds. Honestly the plastic ones with the criss-cross webbing inside - the composite ones - would probably be a better bet, unless you can find the metal style that have the welded on brackets between the ramp part and te stand part.
get jackstands from HARBOR FREIGHT. i just picked up a pair for about $15. then go across the street to sears and get a craftsman jack for $30. harbor freight should have all the tool youd need. and at the best price too.

I can't do the craftsman jacks. I have a small one. It barely fits under my car. I have a big one at my girls house..it doesn't fit.
I'm thinking one of those low profile aluminum ones is what I'd like. They should have the power to lift the caddy. I mean our cars are over 3000 pounds...the caddy is almost dead on 1000 pounds over the weight of the subby. I'd say a 3 ton jack would be the safe bet...
those plastic ramps scare the crap out of me. I mean if a metal one goes it bends. I'll hear/see that and roll out. The plastic...that will just explode and drop a huge sled on my head. No good.
It's like those composite bats. I strait blew a couple of them up in high school. BLEW up.
Shoot I'll weld support straps in myself on a metal one if need be.
I'll cruise by sears and see what's up over there. Maybe go by harbor freight...anyone have their address on hand?
I'll look up that K11 place and give em a ring or something.
I got my box of tune up parts for the caddy and my girlfriend called me last night and told me it's leaking gas and oil all over the place so I need to figure that out this weekend too...boooo.
Thanks everyoen.

My pops had a '68 K10 4X4 Chebby we used when I was younger and that is one heavy beast. He drove up on 2 of those red metal ramps and they simply flattened out as the truck rolled up on them. We tried another set and it started to flatten when he was under the truck. I have also seen them push into the dirt when not used on concrete. If you are that worried about it, I suggest some super heavy duty ramps, though they probably won't work with your lowered car. You might be best off to have someone fab something. Another thing is the composite ramps are flat on top while the metal ones are usually cupped for strength, and anything wider than a 205 tire will simply not fit, and/or be extremely dangerous if it does.
I understand your fears I guess, but I am not sure which plastic ramps you are talking about, and I am pretty sure a speeding baseball hitting a plastic bat has nothing in common with a car sitting on a composite ramp. We used the regular plastic ramps from PepBoys - the ones with all the triangles on the underside and internal webbing - to lift a friend's full size Dodge panel truck a few times with no issues, cracks, explosions whatsoever. I say, pick up a set - roll the car up and have a few beers. If it pops and explodes then sue and buy yourself a built Caddy show car.

But seriously, you could also get 2 cheapie heavy-duty jackstands from Sears and put them under the car for safety once it's up on the ramps - which would be a good idea no matter which ones you choose.
