Arrow It's official...redrex is gone...

The car that is, not me personally. My insurance deemed the car a total loss (accident at Buttonwillow) and I now have to say goodbye to my redrex

The good news is that my insurance (since this was my only claim in the past 8 years) covered the car . I am now officially car hunting. I still have not decided whether I want another WRX or maybe pick up an RS instead. An STI is out of the question for now since my wife and I are also in the market for a house. I actually have been looking for another Sedona Red WRX but could find only one (all the way in SAC.) If I do buy another WRX, it'll probably another color. Just wanted to let you guys know the outcome of the Buttonwillow accident. I'd like to thank Subydude for helping me out and hauling my car up to the Bay Area from Buttonwillow. I'll be calling him pretty soon to get some new wheels .

Bummer man! Have you tried a used GC6? Real fun compared to the bigger newer cars.

if you can live with it, buy a cheapo car right now and then buy your house. A few months after buying your house, then go pick up the STi if you want one. I did that with my car - bought a 240sx, then a house, then traded the 240 on a WRX

razorlab- suprisingly, no, I didn't have to fight my insurance company. I just called my agent and told her what happened. She just asked me if I was alright and filed my claim. The only thing that scared me was the wait (approx. 1 week) from the time I filed the claim to when they actually came out and inspected the car. After they inspected the car, they told me that they would total the car and sent me papers to sign. I finally received my settlement check today.

sonicsuby-when I was first in the market for a car 7 months ago, I decided to get the used WRX over the new STI just because it fits my needs (fun to drive and auto-x car) and cost 2/3 less even w/ the suspension mods I added to the car. I really want either a WRX or an RS to auto-x again, thus my decision to pick up one of these cars in the near future (hopefully by this weekend). Hopefully in a couple of years after we buy a house, the new Skyline GTR (2007) will be available

Good luck with both the house and the car shopping.

I didn't really catch whether you would be financing the car or if the settlement check from your insurance was going to pay the new car off in full. If you plan on financing the car, I suggest holding off until you buy the house. It's much easier to buy the house and then purchase a car. As with the house they ask you to list any balances you have, when qualifying you for the loan. Then from your loan balances they calculate how much of a loan you'd be able to afford. As with the car, usually a month or so after closing escrow on the house it's not an issue with the auto finance companies that you have a mortgage payment of X amount. Who knows with how some of these houses are appreciating nowadays, you may have gained enough equity in a year to buy the STi (or skyline) in cash

As with the most important things, I'm glad to hear that financially the accident didn't set you back, and even moreso that niether you or Maricel were hurt.
