as a state worker on dec 24, it is customary to give people a half a day off... but the gov has to officially give out a notice...

BIG F'ing deal....

If the US had the same policies as Germany none of us would have jobs. All of our jobs would be outsourced to developing Nations where people are happy to have a job that makes them work 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

Yes, I could have left earlier today, BUT I'm a kiss *** and don't want to leave until my Manager does

this weekend blew pole. I was peering out of my little window in the server shack after lunch watching the line of VP and Director offices go dark one by one. Then all of a sudden I see my bosses light turn off and his door close so I haul *** over to see what's going on, "oh I'm leaving for italy tomorrow so I'm leaving today to get ready" "yeah yeah, rub it in. Do you mind is I disappear early today?" "well, that wouldn't be a good idea, HR is keeping an eye on people today" WTF I've been salaried for the last 12 years and don't even use a clock to wake my butt up in the morning, but I can't leave 2 hours early on a holiday, and I was driving up to my cabin in Pollock Pines for the weekend? Sheeeiiiiiiit. I was bent. I just sat in the shack playing doom 3 the rest of the day with my door locked and curtain pulled, oh gee the phone is rining, sorry I'm in an important meeting .

I've thought about moving overseas, in one direction or the other. I've had an offer to almost match my salary to my to Ipoh Malaysia which would mean I'd be living pimp style. I've also had an offer to go work in Zwolle Netherlands for MUCH more than I'm making now. The only thing holding me back is a 7 year old kid that I don't want to subject to the culture shock. Both countries have absurd holidays and vacation. Two months ago I almost jumped out of a 4th story window after talking to my friend in Zwolle. "Oh I won't be in next week, well I won't be in for the next few weeks, it's holiday for us" "What do you mean you just took a 1 month vacation and toured all of europe" "Yeah I know, that was vacation, this is summer holiday" That on top of the other holidays they have????? What in the holy hell. If I hadn't gotten a 15% bump in pay two months ago I'd be pretty bitter right now, although I still am in a bit of a slump. After almost 4 years of hell, forced 10 days vacation a quarter for 9 solid quarters, I'm almost out of the hole for vacaion....almost. I hadn't had a raise in 4 years(althought I'm far from living paycheck to paycheck, it's still a kick in the nuts when your options aren't worth they paper they are printed on)

Living in the valley really sucks sometimes. Just when the only thing I have to look up to is the weather we get this hades week thrown at us.

Oh well, back to playing doom 3

Why do they always have to do major office relocations on holiday weekends... ALWAYS?!?!?!?

I feel you, brother. I've had two major moves (500 and 90) and one smaller one (30 people) and all of them have been on holiday weekends... lame.

Even lamer for the people that are salaried. They used to give us "move bonuses" if everything went smooth for getting through a whole weekend + of 12-20 hour days. On this last move (90 people), they decided that they would get us pizza... thanks. Asses.
